Speakers:
Jake Davis, Financial Director for Tarrant County Democratic Party
Jake gave us some insight as to the plans and direction of the County Party. Clearly, we
are at a crossroads in the Democratic Party nationally as well as here in Tarrant County.
It has been a bit like a roller coaster politically, fighting disinformation constantly and
reorganizing some of the plans and direction of the County Party.
These are some of the priorities:
• Provide information to PC’s so they can get out in neighborhoods and talk to the
people in their precincts.
• Focus on funding printing materials to distribute to constituents.
• Sustaining memberships are vital to the County Party so they know they can
count on a certain amount to come in monthly.
o GOP in Tarrant County raised $1.25 million for 2-week GOTV campaign.
o TCDP raised $25,000
• It’s very hard to compete when finances are so unequal.
• Everyone is urged to become a sustaining member (monthly donor) to the party.
• A donor offered to match any sustaining memberships that were pledged at the
meeting.
Looking to the future on the state and national level:
• A new Democratic National Committee Chair was recently elected. Ken Martin, a
politician from MN and was serving as the MN party chair. He was president of
the Association of State Democratic Committees and was previously a vice chair
for the DNC.
• The Texas Democratic Party is in the process of electing a new Chairman.
• Last year the TDP raised $65million and gave $35million to the DNC. Under the
new leadership, we hope to be able to keep more of the money that we raise in
Texas.
• We need to work together to make change happen. Find ways to get involved
and be the change you want to see.
