Northwest Tarrant Progressives Minutes: General Meeting, Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Updated: Oct 3, 2019

The meeting was called to order by the president, Michael Stackhouse, at 7:06 PM. The secretary, treasurer, membership committee chair, and marketing committee chair were also present. Total attendance was 22.

Michael recognized the evening’s speaker, Al Woolum, who is running as a Democratic candidate for the U. S. House of Representatives in Texas District 12. Mr. Woolum served in the United States Navy, was one of the first students to participate in the Women's Studies program at San Diego State University, and fully supports a woman’s right to make her own reproductive health decisions. Mr. Wollum's contact information is alwoolum4congress@gmail.com and www.woolum4congresstx12.com. Campaign contributions may be mailed to 729 Grapevine Highway, Suite 305, Hurst, Texas 76054.

The secretary, Lee Traweek, provided minutes from the April 17th general meeting, and those minutes were approved as distributed.

The treasurer, Haley Stackhouse, reported a cash balance of $1293.30, and paid memberships at 41 for 2019. We are only 9 members away from meeting our 2019 goal of 50 members! The treasurer’s report was accepted as distributed.

Michael discussed the Tarrant County Democratic Party’s structure and key leaders - Chair Deborah Peoples, Executive Director Marco Rosas, and Precinct Leadership Chair Beth Kelly. He also described the party’s standing committees, and how NWTP integrates with the party. A key goal of the TCDP and NWTP is to fill vacant precinct chair positions, and Beth Kelly is the focal point for that effort. The County Executive Committee will be meeting at 10:00AM on June 1, in the Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1959 Sandy Lane, Fort Worth, Texas 76112. This is a great opportunity to learn and get involved. Information on CEC activities will be posted on the club website at www.nwtarrantprogressives.com.

The meeting adjourned at 7:57 PM.
