Call to Order: The meeting was called to order via Zoom by the club president, Greg Noone, at

7:05 PM, with 10 members present.

Minutes: The Secretary, Karen Horgan, presented the minutes from the June 2021 general meeting. The minutes were approved as presented.

Financial Report: The treasurer, Ron Miller, presented the financial report, with a cash

balance of $702.25 The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

Speakers:

Rodney Lee, candidate for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4. Retired veteran, former probation officer, teacher.

Platform:

1. Change how truancy as a way to criminalize youth in courts is used. Provide education program to address issue.

2. Provide tenants and landlords information and knowledge about their rights and options that will help keep them out of court.

3. Educate the public about the role of a Justice of the Peace. Meet and talk with people in his precinct.

Saturday, July 31 block walking to get petitions signed. Please join if you can.

Elizabeth “Mimi” Coffey, a criminal defense attorney who is considering running for HD 99 State Representative.

Platform:

1. Require forensics used by police to be complete and legal.

2. Worried about the increasing cost of higher education.

3. Develop better police internal affairs guidelines. Need stringent policies so police violence cases are monitored and corrected.

4. Against the abortion (heartbeat) bill.

5. Raise minimum wage so we can grow our economy.

Financial Report: The treasurer, Ron Miller, presented the financial report, with a cash

balance of $773.34. The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

Speakers:

We had several Judicial Candidates speak:

MarQ Clayton, Candidate for County Criminal Court #7. She is the founder and managing partner of The Clayton Law Firm. Also founded and organized several non-profit organizations. Currently serves as a criminal defense attorney in Fort Worth, Texas. She will bring these experiences with her to the bench and utilize them to provide equality, transparency, and empathy.

Lesa Pamplin, former police officer and prosecuting ADA for Tarrant County. Currently a criminal defense attorney. She is a candidate for Judge, in Tarrant County Criminal Court #5. This is a domestic violence court. She wants to work with the community to reduce domestic violence incidents.

Tiffany Burks of Grand Prairie is deputy chief of the criminal division for the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney. Candidate for the 372nd Criminal Court, which is a felony court in Tarrant County. She feels currently there is a lack of compassion or concern for individual cases and the court focuses too much on sheer numbers of cases.

Albert Roberts previewed his intentions to announce his candidacy for District Attorney.

Also speaking was Allison Campolo who is running for Tarrant County Democratic Party Chair. Alison is a former candidate and recently was responsible for the County Coordinated Campaign.

Some of her priorities for the Party include: Fundraising, increasing voter turnout rates, voter registration, recruiting more Precinct Chairs, and giving them more training, better tools, more direction, better print materials.

Speakers:

Trey Hunt, candidate for House of Representatives, HD12, running against Kay Granger.

Some of Trey’s priorities are: public transportation, redirect military budget, criminal justice reform, affordable & accessible healthcare.

He believes Granger is in a weaker position for the upcoming election because of the Panther Island issues. He has a plan to incorporate Parker and Wise counties in his campaign by addressing rural problems, hospitals, broadband access.

Announcements:

Texas Legi Session is winding up.

Discussion and identification of the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad bills still active in the Texas Legislature. Greg highlighted all the bills that need action and calls to our representatives. There were many.
